Giant Steel Sculpture Unveiled at ArtsBank
ArtsBank is delighted to unveil a brand new outdoor sculpture by acclaimed artist Ray Lonsdale. The dramatic 12 foot high steel figure of a fisherman stands outside ArtsBank’s gallery on Milton Street in Saltburn. Entitled ‘A High Tide in Short Wellies,’ the sculpture makes a powerful statement about the decline of the fishing industry. Ray Lonsdale will already be familiar to many of ArtsBank’s visitors, having created the five life-size steel figures which stood at the heart of the gallery’s hugely successful Teesside Steel Exhibition last year. Just like those earlier sculptures, the new outdoor work expresses a sensitivity and depth of emotion unique to Ray Lonsdale’s steel figures. The sculpture was unveiled on Thursday 31st March, and has already attracted the admiration of countless gallery visitors. Why not come along to ArtsBank and see this remarkable sculpture for yourself?
