Born in St Ives in 1929, Bryan Pearce was introduced to art by his mother, the artist Mary Pearce, who encouraged him to draw and paint as therapy for his rare brain condition, phenylketonuria.

For more than 50 years, until his death in 2007, Bryan specialised in painting his hometown of St Ives and the surrounding area.

Now regarded as one of the foremost naïve painters of his generation, there is a clear sense of delight in Bryan's work.  There is no attempt at light or shade, everything is seen in a clear cool light and his paintings are instantly recognisable.
