Ailsa Nicholson
Ailsa is a ceramic artist who creates a variety of decorative wheel thrown pieces and handbuilt sculptures which concentrate on form rather than function and explore both negative and positive space and the movement suggested within those spaces.
Ailsa set up her ceramic studio in the Whitby area in North Yorkshire after graduating and has exhibited nationally, also undertaking many commissions.
Larger scale ‘one-off’ sculptures are created using wheel thrown and reforming techniques. Ailsa’s recent work has moved away from colour to explore purity of form and texture whilst celebrating the natural colour of the clay itself.
